Kim founded and ran The Ladybug Project (a 501c3 nonprofit) at the age of 22 while working in Equatorial Guinea, West Africa. Kim continued to build the organization and managed the delivery of school and administrative supplies to several schools and a clinic across two sub-Saharan countries. She raised funds for the organization, managed the renovation of a small school in rural Madagascar, and ran the organization when offices in Equatorial Guinea were first opened. Throughout her time with Ladybug, she managed to secure ~$100,000 in funding, in-kind donations, and volunteer helpers. Though Kim has not been involved in the project since spring 2013, the organization continued to undertake education and healthcare development projects for several years under new leadership in Africa.
